Photographer Suzanne Collins caught the amazing sight of her ten week old kitten suckling from her whippet who has never had puppies of her own.

The Drogheda-based mum said:

“I have Molly the whippet about 18 months but only got Hunter the kitten two weeks ago. I wanted them to get used to each other and socialised before I even let them out of the kitchen.  When I put them together, they cuddled into each other. Hunter just latched on to Molly and I guess, she latched on so much that Molly’s milk came in, even though she has never had any pups.  Molly just looks after Hunter now and cuddles him like he is one of her own.  She always keeps an eye on him in the garden while he loves to run up the trees.”

Suzanne also has a greyhound called Beauty, or Blueview Karma as he is known in the racing field. He too has taken to the new kitten Hunter.

Suzanne has never had a kitten before but it’s brought such positivity to the house.

Greyhounds make excellent pets

Suzanne highlighted that Beauty was nearing retirement for racing and that organisations the Irish Greyhound Trust and All About Greyhounds were looking for new homes for other retired greyhounds.

“Anyone thinking of a pet should consider a greyhound.  They are beautiful animals, mild-mannered and sleep for up to 17 hours a day.
