Flea and Worms Prevention in Cats and Dogs
We all want our cats and dogs to enjoy optimal health, and that’s why flea and worm treatment is so important. We don’t want parasites to make them sick, and we don’t want our pets to carry parasites that might make us sick.
The main parasites that cause health issues in cats and dogs are fleas, ticks and worms.
We have a choice about how to deal with these.
First, we can wait until they cause a visible problem, and then use products to get rid of them.
Second, we can take a more proactive approach, using safe and effective products regularly to prevent our cats and dogs from picking up parasites in the first place.
Most people prefer the latter approach: the general rule of prevention being better than cure applies.
Many people find it confusing when trying to sort out this aspect of their pet’s life:
- What product should they use?
- How often should they use it?
Many pet owners end up using an irrational, ineffective approach, wasting time and money.
Our aim at Petfix Club is to guide people through the maze of flea, worm and tick prevention and treatment, leading them to a simple, safe, cost-effective routine that protects their cats and dogs.
Reasons for Worm & Flea Prevention
Dogs and cats can pick up worms, just by being out and about doing their normal walks and activities, and these worms can cause two types of problems
- Worms can have an adverse effect on cat and dogs health
- Worms that can be passed on to humans, having an adverse effect on human health
For these reasons, regular worming treatment of cats and dogs is important. The precise worming regime depends on the individual animal, so it’s important to work out what’s needed for your own pet.
Dogs and cats can pick up fleas from being close to other animals, or from going to places where other pets have been walking or lying. Most cats and dogs, if no flea treatment is given, they are likely to pick up fleas that cause itchiness and sore skin. And once the fleas get into your home, they hop off the animal and lay their eggs in your carpets and soft furnishings. They can bite humans and can cause a rash, but they cannot live on humans in the same way that they live on dogs and cats.
Not all dogs and cats need the same flea treatments: if they never go outside, and never meet other animals, then the risk of picking up fleas is minimal.
But if your cat or dog does go out, or does meet other animals, then for most people, it’s preferable to prevent fleas in the first place by using regular preventive flea treatment. For most people, this is the best way to keep your pets – and your home – free from fleas.
Petfix Club Flea and Worm Tool
Does my cat definitely need flea and worm treatment? How many vials or tablets does my dog need? Why is it so difficult to figure out the recommended frequency of using flea and worm products? These are questions most pet owners ask.
Flea and worm treatments can be a very confusing area for pet owners because every single animal is different and the frequency/amount of treatment depends on a number of factors such as weight, lifestyle factors and the size of the cat or dog. Therefore, there is no “one-size-fits-all”, and each cat and dog must be assessed individually.
At Petfix Club, we want to make this process as simple as possible for you. That is why we created the Petfix Club Flea and Worm Tool. Specially created by our vet Pete Wedderburn and his team, this tool has taken into account, all variables, and aims to give you a simple outcome that will tell you exactly what treatment your cat or dog may need, how often they will need it, and the exact doses to be given each time.
All you have to do is answer a few simple questions about your pet, and we will do the rest of the work for you. Once you have completed the questionnaire, you can purchase your flea and worm treatment, you can buy it on subscription, or in some cases you may be referred to your vet for prescription-only products if they are needed. Our system means that Petfix can manage your order, and we will send you the correct dose, at the correct intervals, and remind you to administer them. We want to make the process simple and easy so you do not have to worry!
