Who is Involved?

Scientists recently began a search for the world’s smartest dogs. Researchers in Hungary wanted six dogs to take part in the Genius Dog Challenge, to test their memories. We know that animals can remember human names, but can they remember the names of objects?

Once the search was complete, the Scientists chose six of the smartest dogs they could find from all over the world to take part in the challenge:

  • Squall 🇺🇸
  • Gaia 🇧🇷
  • Rico 🇪🇸
  • Nalani 🇳🇱
  • Whiskey 🇳🇴
  • Max 🇭🇺

What is the Challenge?

Stage 1

Each dog will receive a box with 6 toys and have 6 days to learn the names of each object. They will then test the dogs over live broadcast on Facebook and YouTube.

Stage 2

The dogs will then receive a box of 12 toys but still have only 6 days to learn their names and in the final broadcast they will test all of dogs together.

This challenge is a great way to understand how much information a dog’s memory can hold.

While it is not yet clear if the dogs understand the words in the way a human would, the team are keen to see the differences between the dogs able to learn words and those who can’t. Petfix Club are excited to see how this challenge goes and will make sure to keep you informed!
