How can I cure my dog’s itchy ears?

My dog keeps getting itchy ears. The vet gives me ointment for them, and they improve, but it keeps happening again. Is there any hope of a permanent cure?

Itchy ears can recur for a few reasons, including resistant bacterial infections and complicated allergies to dusts and pollens. Ask your vet to specifically tackle the fact that this keeps recurring: if necessary, you may wish to ask for a referral to a vet with a particular interest in skin disease (ears are classified as “skin” when it comes to diseases in pets).
