How do I stop my dog from growling and snapping at me?

My dog growls at me sometimes, for no reason. I always get cross with him when he does this, but that makes it worse, and he has even snapped at me. What can I do?
A
There must be some reason for your dog doing this, even if you can’t see it yourself. He could be in pain, there could be something he’s afraid of, and there are many other possibilities. Take him to your vet for a check over and a discussion. If the vet can’t help you, he’ll refer you on to a dog behaviourist as the next stage in sorting this out.
