What can I do about my whippet who has blood-stained sniffles and a cough?
Q
My 3 year old whippet has blood-stained sniffles from her left nostril and she has developed a cough. My vet has put her onto several courses of antibiotics and steroids. The vet took xrays and talked about the possibility of a fungal infection. What can I do now?
A
With any complex medical case, you are always free to ask your vet for a referral to a specialist veterinary medical centre (like UCD Veterinary Hospital). More complex techniques are available (e.g. MRI scans) and these may be needed to confirm a rare diagnosis. This level of work-up does get expensive but sometimes there is no other way to find a definitive answer.
If you are worried about your pet's health, visit the Petfix DIY Triage Checker or talk to your vet as soon as possible.
