What can I do to stop my dog from picking up ticks?

Q

What can I do to stop my dog from picking up ticks?

A

If a dog just gets occasional ticks, simply removing them may be sufficient (e.g. using an O’Tom Tick Remover). If you live in an area where ticks are common, it’s better to use a product that is licensed to kill or prevent ticks: the easiest way is to give a tablet, either once a month or every three months, depending on the product. These tablets are prescription-only, so ask your vet if you want to know more.
