Why is there a nick on the tip of my dogs tail that keeps bleeding?

Q

My Labrador has a nick on the tip of her tail that keeps bleeding. It seems to heal up, but then she wags it, and it starts bleeding all over again. What can be done to stop this?

A

This is a frustrating type of injury. The tip of the tail has thin skin that’s easily damaged, and it’s slow to heal. Take her to your vet who will provide you with special types of dressing to protect the tail tip. It can sometimes take several months for this type of problem to settle down.
