How can I cure my dogs itchy ears permanently?

My 4 month old Rotteweiler has got itchy ears. The vet told me it was ear mites and gave me ear drops that I applied for a week. She got better, but the itch has come back. How can I cure her permanently?

Ear mites can be tricky to cure, because the mite eggs are resistant to ointment. You need to wait until the eggs hatch out into young mites and then use the drops. This can mean continuing the drops twice a week for two full weeks after the main ointment course is finished. Talk to your vet about the details of making sure that you fully eradicate the mites.
