What is a polyp and will surgery definitely cure it?

Q

Our cat was sneezing and snuffling, and after an xray, our vet has told us that she has a “polyp” in her throat and he wants to operate. What is a polyp and will surgery definitely cure it?

A

It’s always best to ask questions like this directly to your vet, as they will have the most information about the details of the case, and they should be able to give you specific answers. Having said that, this sounds like a “nasopharyngeal polyp”, which is like a long-stemmed benign tumour. Simple surgery to remove these is often enough to solve the problem, although they can sometimes regrow, needing further surgery in the future.
