When I trimmed my dog’s claws, one of them bled. How can I stop this from happening again?

Q

I bought nail clippers in the pet shop, but when I trimmed my dog’s claws, one of them bled. It stopped after 10 minutes but how can I stop this happening again?

A

There is a science and an art to trimming dogs’ claws: it isn’t always as easy as you’d think.

Ask your local vet or dog groomer to give you a demonstration on your own dog, and next time, just take off a small amount (e.g the sharp tips only).

Once you know how to do this, you can be certain that you won’t cause bleeding again.
